Beginner's guide to MEAL PREP

What is this trend called Meal Prepping?

Meal Prepping is known as different methods of preparing a week's worth of meals. Similar to what we do when we set aside leftovers from a big lunch or dinner for next days' breakfast, lunches, or dinners.

Below is an overview on the different methods when meal prepping.

WHY Meal Prep?

The biggest benefit of this is SAVING time and money. One is buying and preparing home-cooked food ahead of time so there is no reason to get a takeaway or delivery. Many people meal prep on the weekends to save time on busy weekdays.

GO HEALTHY - Meal prepping pushes one to eat healthier and reach one's weight loss goals. The menu is portioned, weighed and prepared way in advance which allows most people to take it anywhere they go. At work, at a party - seriously, we've seen people pack their own food and snack at a party. Most especially for those with strict diets such as Gluten Free. It also prevents the temptation of the unhealthy stuff.

LET'S PREP!!

  1. Make a Shopping List. Order your protein and omega 3 essentials to save time! Subscriptions to food delivery has been a a big hit especially when COVID hit. Weekly, monthly and fortnight food delivery ensures your weekly essentials are sorted.
  2. CONTAINERS: Airtight containers for ready-to-cook ingredients: Washable, reusable silicone baggies and stainless steel containers are great for keeping ingredients crisp and foods fresh.BPA-free microwavable containers: These are both convenient and better for your health. Pyrex glassware or collapsible silicone containers are some good options. Freezer-safe containers: These will limit freezer burn and nutrient losses. Wide-mouth mason jars are ideal, as long as you leave at least 1 inch (2.5 cm) of headspace so food can expand as it freezes.
  3. Cooking, Storing and Reheating Foods Safely - Ensure you have your food safety knowledge cap on! It is often overlooked when meal prepping. Putting labels of dates will help with freshness.
